Teaching and Assessment

Throughout the programme, teaching and learning strategies adopted by tutors will acknowledge a range of learning styles. Students are encouraged to critically analyse concepts, theories and practice and how this is demonstrated in the applied field.

Learning is supported through close contact with a range of sport and fitness specialists, with access to dedicated facilities. It provides an opportunity for personally-focused learning.

‍

Concentrating on the three key disciplines of sports coaching, fitness and rehabilitation, the programme will enable students to develop and sustain a career in the field, or go onto specialise in postgraduate study. As a student of both City of Oxford College and Oxford Brookes University, students will have access to both facilities and resources to support their studies. Students will also be eligible to play sport for Oxford Brookes University, including the much sought after MCCU cricket programme. The university is also a TASS (talented athlete scholarship scheme) accredited centre.

The module assessments have been designed to assist in the building of skills offering formative before summative assignments. There will be a schedule for each student that provides the opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Students must have completed an appropriate programme to be eligible to apply for the final year entry to the BSc (Hons) in Sports Coaching, Fitness and Rehabilitation. These include:

A Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching, Fitness and Rehabilitation awarded by Oxford Brookes University, successfully gaining 240 credits and usually a 55% grade average
A Foundation degree in Sports, Science or related disciplines, successfully gaining 240 credits and usually a 55% grade average, subject to individual credit rating by Oxford Brookes University.
A Higher National Diploma in Sports Science and related disciplines, successfully gaining 240 credits with Merit Profile at level 5, QAA Benchmarks, subject to individual credit rating by Oxford Brookes University.

Applicants whose first language is not English, must also demonstrate that their level of English is acceptable by achieving a score in a recognised test, such as:

British Council IELTS: normally minimum level 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in the reading and writing components;
TOEFL minimum score of 550 paper-based or 213 computer-based or 80 internet-based.

You should be aware that accommodation and day-to-day living costs are not included in our fees.

We strongly recommend purchasing a laptop to support you in your studies on the course.

We recommend that you budget £100 a year for additional costs such as for stationary to undertake your studies. You can borrow textbooks and access journals from the recommended reading lists most of these are available from the Learning Resource Centre. If you choose to buy textbooks, they may cost up to £60 each.
